And while it's tempting to just ignore the problem and hope that it goes away, writer's block is one of those pests that requires active extermination. Fortunately, there are a few tried-and-true ways to stop writer's block in its tracks, and today I'll show you a few that have proven successful for me. Writer's block comes in many forms, often appearing as a result of several different roadblocks. It can be caused by an absence of inspiration or motivation, self-doubt, overthinking, lack of focus. It can also be caused by having too much caffeine or not enough sleep. In other words, writer's block is as unique as the person who experiences it — but there are some common cures that may help all writers get back into the flow of creativity and purge that pesky block from their brains once and for all. First is a change of scenery. A new environment, a new project, a new story you've been putting off writing can make a huge difference in your writing process. Try going somewhere quiet and alone to write — be it your own bedroom or the bathroom at work. Though I personally love tactile things like notebooks and pen and paper, digital writers' basements are also highly effective at getting your creativity flowing again. When I'm stuck on a story idea, research helps me to generate deeper emotions for what I'm writing so I can put those emotions into my characters, but if they're sad/happy/angry enough it's sometimes the only way for me to know where to start crafting a novel. I also recommend trying to write in the same place every time. The same desk, or computer, or notebook. And if that doesn't work, go to the same location every day until it does. Writing in the same place will help you to think of your character's actions as you type them on the page. That may seem like an obvious observation, but I know all too well how easy it is for our minds to wander when we're not writing (I'm having trouble getting off of this paragraph). It keeps us focused and allows us to build on an already concrete idea, rather than being creative with nothing but a general idea in mind. eccc085e13
